Bold 9780 Hands-on Review



We jumped on the bandwagon two days ago with more pictures of the upcoming Blackberry Bold 9780. Well we're back today with exclusive video of the 9780 running OS6! We've seen plenty of videos of the 9800 running OS6, but to date there has been no video of a QWERTY device running the OS (except for the very early review of the 9670 we did!). More importantly, we haven't seen Webkit on a QWERTY device.

As you can see, everything seems to run quite nice! Take note of times the screen seems to be white and "loading". This was not lag, rather just the camera getting adjusted to the light. As mentioned in the video, it is important to note that this is a pre-release device and definitely not running the final software version. In fact, based on the picture below, this device is running App Version 6.0.0.79.



Some quick observations of this device:
-The 9780 has the exact same form factor and appears to be the same all around hardware of it's older brother, the 9700.
-The camera does not have the "5MP" stamp next to it that the 9670 has.
-Same screen resolution as the 9700.
-Appears ready to run on GSM networks (read: AT&T and T-Mobile in the US).
-Cannot tell if the processor is the same as the 9700, but runs smoother on OS6.
-Tough to tell from the pictures because of glare, but has a sharp black bezel around ...

Bold 9650 OS6 Screenshots appear!



It looks like our friends at BBLeaks.com have come up with the first screen shots of the Bold 9650 running OS6! Once again, there were many that doubted this would ever happen and to those I say have a look at that picture! Great job as always Sal and LV!

Now if only I could get MY Bold (9650) running OS6.....

Bold 9780 Makes Another Appearance!


I'm excited to share some more pre-release goodness with you today! Our good friend Salomondrin brought you the first ever picture of the rumored Bold 9780 just this past weekend. This was shortly after Bla1ze outed the 9780 from a UAProf document at Crackberry.

Well I'm back with some more high-res photos of the upcoming device! As you can see from the About screen featured in the first photo, this device is clearly running OS6. So for those of you that doubted this device was really running OS6, there is your proof!

Below you will also notice that this device surely did get a memory bump up to support the new OS6.



I know some of you who love your 9700 are pleased to see RIM basically keeping the same design but just giving internal upgrades. I'm sure just like 9630 owners, some of you 9700 owners feel a bit left out knowing that your device likely won't get OS6 and you'll be forced to upgrade. So, how do you feel? Here is something I thought you all might enjoy playing with this weekend! The full java folder contents for the 6.0.0.31 OS designed for the 9670 Oxford or "Clamshell".

Please keep in mind that this is NOT an .exe and you should not attempt to load these files unless you are an advanced Blackberry user. Many of these files will cause your Blackberry to have errors so please keep this in mind if you plan on testing these out. Have fun and please report any findings!
